TURNERS FALLS - James A. Reid, 49, formerly of Turnpike Road, died Friday (3-15-13) at the Buckley HealthCare Center in Greenfield.

He was born in Greenfield on Feb. 29, 1964, the son of Arthur and May (Shaw) Reid. Jim attended local schools in Bernardston and Turners Falls High School. He received his GED and continued his education at Greenfield Community College.
Jim worked as part of the kitchen crew at Deerfield Academy for many years. Prior to that, he worked as a dishwasher for many local restaurants.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid motorcyclist and pet lover, especially cats. Jim was proud to be a friend of Bill W., who kept him grounded and committed to his sobriety.
Among his survivors, Jim leaves two sisters, Debra Demers and her husband Paul of Turners Falls and Mary Jo Doege and her husband Jeffrey of Lunenburg; a brother, William Reid and his wife Elizabeth of Lafayette, LA; five nephews, Rick Kelley of Enfield, CT, Conner and Jarrett Ghiz and Logan and Tyler Doege, all of Lunenburg, and one niece, Sadie Reid of Lafayette, LA.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday (3-19-13) at 10 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield. Burial will follow at South Cemetery in Leyden.
Calling hours will be held Monday (3-18) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
