James Herald Obituary

GREENFIELD - James Herald (born: James Harold Miller), 75, of Greenfield, passed away on Friday (4-19-13) after a short battle with cancer.
James was born in Utica, NY, on Nov. 15, 1939. He was the adopted son of Harold and Marion Miller. He graduated from Ovid High School in New York and continued on to receive a BFA from Ithaca College and later an associate's in Recreation Management from GCC.
James enlisted in the Army after college and served two years in Germany as an MP and three years as a reservist in NY.
Following his time in the Army, he worked as a theatre manager and as a male model in New York City for several years before striking out in search of adventure, eventually settling in the Franklin County area.
He enjoyed gardening and architectural design. He was also actively involved in assisted home living and provided a loving home environment to his client until just months before his death.
James is survived by his two sons, Forrest and Micah, as well as his stepdaughter, Ivy.
Friends of the deceased are invited to attend an informal reception with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Mt. Toby Friends Meetinghouse, 194 Long Plain Road (Route 63), Leverett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Tapestry Health, your local animal shelter, or your local hospice organization.
The family of James Herald wishes to thank Hospice of Franklin County for their caring assistance at the end of his life.

Forrest, Micah and ivy, I learned today that Jim has left this world. We would go long times between seeing each other and then I'd stop by and we'd pick up in conversation where we'd left off. (I babysat for you years ago, Jim and I were friends from GCC days).
I shall miss his laugh and that warm twinkle in his eye. What a caring man and good spirit.

Jim provided many wonderful loving years to Larry as a Care Provider for Specialized Home Care. Larry enjoyed a full life and was able to live in his community enjoying all the benefits it had to offer. Jim meant the world to Larry and his life was enriched immensely by their relationship. Thank you Jim and thank you Forest, Micah, and Ivy for sharing your dad with us.

Dear Forrest, Micah, and Ivy,
Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your father. Jim was a good friend, and I have wonderful memories of times spent together exploring the Pioneer Valley and laughing like two kids.
The world was a better place because of your father's passion and advocacy for those who were less fortunate.
Jim loved you and was proud of all your accomplishments. He loved Larry, too, and Larry's life with Jim was full of wonderful experiences.
May all the memories you have of your father sustain you during difficult times. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
