GREENFIELD - Janet A. (Lapseritis) Penfield, 72, of Silver Crest Circle, died Sunday (5-4-14), after a brief illness, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born in Greenfield on April 9, 1942, the daughter of John and Helen (Parda) Lapseritis. Janet attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1960.
She married her beloved husband, Robert Penfield, on Nov. 21, 1964, and was self-employed as a Paramedical Examiner for over 15 years before her retirement.
As an active member at Blessed Sacrament Church, Janet became a Eucharistic Minister and a server at the adoration chapel. She faithfully delivered communion to the elderly and those who could not leave their homes, and was a loving testament in both word and action to her devout Catholic faith.
Helping others was her passion and Janet frequently volunteered her time to bring cancer patients to and from appointments, and to cooking for the homeless. At one time, she was a member of the Big Sisters Organization and a foster mom.
Janet enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, and loved to travel in the RV with her husband, Robert. Most of all, Janet especially loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was extremely family-oriented and adored her husband, children and grandchildren. Her warm kindness and delicious baked goods were frequently bestowed upon all whom she touched on a daily basis.
Besides her husband of 49 years, Robert; Janet leaves two sons, Mark and his wife Melissa, Jason and his wife Tammy, all of Greenfield; a daughter, Kimberly Mitton and her husband Russell of Templeton, MA; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Mitchell, Ainslee and Jason Penfield, Tyler and Ryan Leroux, Kara and Jeffrey Mitton; a great-grandson, Deven Mitton, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved dog, Shawnee.
""Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I will miss you, until we meet again.""
