Jean E. (Fournier) Thackeray, 77, of 222 River Road, Leeds, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, at
Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
She was born in Heath, Aug. 31, 1935, the daughter of Rudolph and Florence
(Stetson) Fournier. She attended Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.
Jean was a postal clerk at the Williamsburg Post Office for 20 years. She
retired in November of 1989 on medical disability.
She and her husband, Donald, were residents of Goshen for over 40 years. He
predeceased her on Nov. 27, 2001.
She was a member of the Goshen Congregational Church and was active in the community of Goshen.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing softball and the game of darts.
Survivors include her daughter, Teri (Melvin) Nichols of Alexandria, VA; a son, Alan
(Carlotta) Thackeray of Whately; another son, Bryan (Sydney) Thackeray of
Belchertown, and another daughter, Donna Thackeray of Shutesbury; two brothers, Rudolph Jr. of Plainfield and Robert of Greenfield; two sisters, Doris Rand of Old Lyme, CT and Luella Benson of Rowe; grandchildren, Thomas, Nicole, Alexandria, Melvin John, Donald and Dori; one great-grandson, Anthony; and many nieces and nephews.
A grandson, Craig, predeceased her in 1981. She was also predeceased by her three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at Smith-Kelleher Funeral
Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls, with Pastor Robert Szafran, pastor of the
Colrain Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Arms Cemetery.
