WESTFIELD - Joanne (Martin) Blier, "JoJo" a returning resident of Westfield and formerly of W. Springfield, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 10, 2013, surrounded by her loving children.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born Nov. 20, 1934, Joanne was the eldest daughter of the late Dorothy (Rossignol) and Donald McNally. She was born and raised in Madawaska, ME, and met and later married to Ernest Blier in the spring of 1953. Joanne and Ernie founded Blier's Home for the Elderly in Westfield in the late 1970s and retired to Seminole, FL, in 1998, where Ernie passed away just two years later.
Joanne had this inherent sense of goodness about her. Compassionate, kind and gentle, she was a benevolent keeper or caretaker of all who knew her, at some passage in their life. Further, Joanne was an avid shopper and re-decorator, who enjoyed eating out, crafting and being with her family and friends.
Joanne is survived by four of her children: Barbara DiClementi (Mark) of Southwick, MA, Robert Blier (Diane) of New Haven, CT, Richard "Jay" Blier (Joanne) of Turners Falls, MA, Sandra Tavernier of Oceanside, CA; a sister, Gladys Hartt (Gary) of St. Francis, ME, and brother, Michael McNally (Bonnie) of Ashland, ME, 11 grandchildren: Chad, Brett, Shaun, Jessica, Robbie, Jae, Jocelyn, Joshua, Jolina, Jennifer and David; seven great-grandchildren: Casey, Myra, Lilya, Owen, Caleb, Hayden and Landon; son-in-law, David Tavernier, Sr. of Georgia, and many family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Blier (2000); a son, Ronald "Nick" Blier (2008), and her fiancé, John Brodeur Sr., just weeks ago.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, followed by a Prayer Service at 6.
