COLRAIN - Joe T. Malek, 56, died on Sunday (11-3-13) at home. Born on Aug. 12, 1957 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of Adam and Mildred (Cady) Malek. He was a 1975 graduate of Mohawk Trail Regional High School .
Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1977 to 1981. He married the former Kelly L. Stark on August 28, 1977 in Shelburne Falls.
Joe worked in custodial and maintenance services for the Mohawk Trail Regional School District. He coached little league baseball for 14 years, and was an avid hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly; three sons and daughters-in-law: Jason and Erin Malek, Scott and Sarah Malek, all of Greenfield, and Craig and Jessica Malek of Turners Falls; one daughter and son-in-law: Ashley and Peter Walsh of Orange, and seven grandchildren. He also leaves siblings and their spouses: Cheryl and John Yacovone of Sturbridge, Tammy and Mike Schofield of Hawley, Vicki and Peter Donahue of Colrain and Toni Halbach of Westfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday (11-9-13) at 9 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 14 High St., Greenfield, followed by burial in North River Cemetery, Colrain. There will be a time for visitation the preceding evening (Friday 11-8-13) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
