CHARLEMONT - Margaret L. (Rogers) Shaw, 86, formerly of North River Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Riverwoods Healthcare Center in Lewisburg, PA.
Margaret was born in Greenfield on May 4, 1926, the daughter of Calvin T. and Vivian (Holt) Rogers. She attended elementary school in Colrain and was a graduate of the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, Class of 1944. Margaret was married to Lincoln H. Shaw on Aug. 24, 1946.
She was a certified home caregiver for people in their homes. Most of her life involved caring for and educating others. She cared for sick people in need, doing whatever needed to be done. She taught sewing and baking through the 4-H, and she was well known for her cooking and baking, especially her rolls and breads. She also made wedding cakes and had her own catering truck.
She was the caterer for the Shelburne Falls Kiwanis Club and the Buckland-Shelburne Community Center.
Margaret had many floral gardens and could be found in her gardens for hours at a time - she loved being in the sunshine. She would give bouquets of her flowers away to family and friends. At one time she worked for her in-laws, Shaw the Florist, in Shelburne Falls.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed square dancing, going on yearly camping trips with her husband and children. She even helped her husband build a homemade camper.
Margaret was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Colrain.
She will be remembered by many people as she made friends everywhere she went. Many of her friends were people she went to school with, continuing those friendships throughout her life. She was a giving and caring person who touched the lives of many people.
Survivors include her husband, Lincoln; two daughters, Judith Eisley and her husband Norman of Watsontown, PA, Jennifer Bettis and her husband Jim of Milton, FL; two sons, Jeff and his wife Ellen of Charlemont and Jonathan and his family of Gill; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, John F. Rogers and his wife Phyllis of Greenfield, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held March 2 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Colrain, Foundry Village Road, Colrain, MA 01340.
