GREENFIELD - Mildred E. (Harris) Burkill, 90, of Birch Street died Saturday (1-19-13) at the Buckley HealthCare Center.

She was born in Brattleboro, VT, on Jan. 2, 1923, the daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Cray) Harris. She attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1940. Mildred continued her education and was a graduate of the former Northampton Commercial College.
Mildred was a homemaker. She previously worked in the Standard Department at the Greenfield Tap & Die. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and many other organizations. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts including knitting and painting. She also loved bowling.
Among her survivors, Mildred leaves a daughter, Janet E. Robert and her husband David of Millers Falls; a son, Richard A. Burkill and his wife Theresa of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Laurie Wells, Thomas Burkill, Nancy Blessing and Karen Warner, and seven great-grandchildren, Nick, McKenna and Mitchell Wells, Max and Kelsey Warner and Megan and Ryan Blessing.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Arthur H. Burkill, on Feb. 17, 2005.
Funeral services will be held Friday (1-25-13) at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli officiating.
A calling hour will be held Friday at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Green River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Regional Dog Control Services, Franklin County Regional Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376.
