TURNERS FALLS - Raymond K. ""Zino"" George, 79, of Park Villa Drive passed away Monday (11-18-13) at the Vibra Hospital of Western Mass in Springfield.
He was born in Turners Falls on Feb. 9, 1934, the son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Laframboise) George. Raymond was raised, educated and lived all his life in Turners Falls graduating from Turners Falls High School, Class of 1952. While in school, he excelled in Track and Football. He was named to the 1951 All Western Mass Football Squad as a 126- pound guard.
Raymond joined the United States Army in 1953, spending most of his military career in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
One of his greatest enjoyments was spending time with his grandchildren and when he was having coffee with his friends before work at McDonald's.
Among his survivors, Raymond leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Nancy (Tetreault) George; his children, Gary George and his wife Cathie of Greenfield, Linda Momaney and her husband Michael of Northfield and Jeffrey George of Turners Falls; his grandchildren, Katelyn, Jordan and Evan Momaney and Adyson George; two brothers, Frank George, Jr. of Florida and Joseph George and his wife Beatrice of Utah, and many nieces and nephews.
Raymond was predeceased by his sister, June Vacca.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday (11-23) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 84 K St., Turners Falls, with the Rev. Charles J. DiMascola, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ?Turners Falls Fire Relief Association, 180 Turnpike Road, Turners Falls, MA 01376.
