TURNERS FALLS - Richard ""Dick"" L. Sheperd, 59, of Turners Falls, passed away on Friday (3-22-13) at the Elaine Center at Hadley.
Born on Aug. 30, 1953 in Greenfield, he was the son of Howard and Rita (Gervais) Sheperd. He attended Greenfield schools and earned his GED later in his life.
Dick was employed at the Franklin County House of Correction in its maintenance department for 15 years.
He was a member of the Living Waters Assembly of God Church.
He was past president of the Greenfield Little League and Greenfield Girls' Softball. He was well known for his great sense of humor and practical jokes. Dick enjoyed spending time with family, drinking coffee and scratching tickets at Scotty's, barbecues and trips to Mohegan Sun.
Survivors include his wife Betty (Greene) McCabe, who he married on Nov. 6, 2004, as well as his son, Timothy (wife Heather) of Turners Falls, and daughter, Julie Sheperd (partner Lori Dalton) of Greenfield; two stepchildren: Shannon Antonelli (husband Steve) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Shawn McCabe (wife Jenn) of Sommersworth, NH, and five grandchildren: Connor and Shana McCabe, Sophia and Bodie Antonelli and Hannah Sheperd. He also leaves his mother of Greenfield, siblings: Linda Mackenzie of Greenfield, Marilou Putala of Turners Falls, Howard (wife Chris) of Greenfield, Rita Butynski (husband Michael) of Greenfield, Joyce Dolhenty (husband Edward) of Gill and Peter of Greenfield, many nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends, especially Matt Donahue.
Dick was predeceased by his father and his first wife, Cindy L. (Wells) Sheperd.
A memorial service for Dick will be on Friday (3-29-13) at 10 a.m. at Living Waters Assembly of God Church, officiated by the Rev. David Levandusky, with burial at a later date.
Calling hours will be on Thursday (3-28-13) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 14 High St., Greenfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Richard Sheperd to Children's Miracle Hospital at Baystate Children's Hospital, Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01199.
