TURNERS FALLS - Robert M. Dods, 78, of H Street died Friday (10-25-13) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.

He was born in Montague on Feb. 18, 1935, the son of Roberta (Dods) Gauthier. He grew up in Leverett and was a graduate of New Salem Academy in Salem, MA.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam Era from 1957-1959.
Robert was a horse trainer at the Robyn Crest Stables in Montague, where he lived for over 40 years with his wife, Roseann (Bernardo) Dods. Robert also worked as a laborer doing dry walling, sheet rocking and painting.
Robert enjoyed horse racing. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the Red Sox and never missed a game. He also enjoyed watching basketball games.
Among his survivors, Robert leaves a son, Robert Dods, Jr., of Colrain; a daughter, Robyn Mason of Warwick; a brother, Douglas Gauthier and Donna Lesko of Leverett; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Abby, Justin and Sara Mason and Michael and Robert Dods, and six great-grandchildren, Joseph Lewis III, Simon and Jacob James and Hunter, Tucker and Maverick Marz. He also leaves his niece, Jacqueline Gauthier, of Leverett.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
