ORANGE - Robert F. Gelinas, 89, of 30 Terrace St., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Orange on Sept. 27, 1923, the son of Joseph and Flora (Therrien) Gelinas and lived his entire life in Orange.
Bob served his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps and serving in the 442nd Troop Carrier Group, 303rd Squadron, in the European theatre during World War II. He returned to Orange and went to work at Union Twist Drill until the plant closed in the 80's, and then worked at Niagara Cutter until his retirement.
His source of joy was his family. He enjoyed family gatherings and entertaining his grandchildren. Bob also enjoyed wildlife, the ocean, and was a voracious reader. He was a good neighbor and always reached out to others in the neighborhood to mow lawns, remove snow, and work on projects.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florence (Sinclair) Gelinas; a son, Robert J. Gelinas and his wife, Rickie, of Pearland, TX; daughters, Mary Ann Millet and her husband, John, of East Hartford, CT, Renee Anusiewicz and her husband, Ron, of Southampton, and Nancy Holston and her husband, Jim, of Orange; nine grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 16th, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress St., Orange, with Fr. Brian McGrath officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gardner Visiting Nurses Hospice, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440. Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, is directing the arrangements.
