GREENFIELD - Venita ""Vennie"" (Neforos) Fotopulos, 73, of 55 Burnham Road, fell asleep for the final time in the presence of her loving and caring family after a long and difficult battle with MS, on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, in the care and comfort of her home.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1940 in Pittsfield, MA, the daughter of the late Agnes Kapses Neforos and George J. Neforos. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1958. Vennie attended Bryant College and Berkshire Business School and received her teacher's aide certificate from Greenfield Community College.
She worked in the Blue Print Department at General Electric in Pittsfield. She was a volunteer and an aide in the Greenfield School System and was a secretary, and then supervisor, with the Greenfield Adult Education Program in the '70s. Vennie worked 13 years at Deerfield Academy, retiring in 1994, as the secretary to the Dean of Admissions.
She was a member of the YMCA and enjoyed the rehab swim class for many years. Vennie was also made an honorary member of the GHS Class of 1954, for her efforts in planning their reunion. Vennie enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, word games and was an avid Scrabble player. Vennie enjoyed the friendly Scrabble competition with her dear friends: Beverly, Elaine and Linda. She enjoyed working with computers, bowling and horseback riding.
She was married on Aug. 21, 1960 to her husband, James A. Fotopulos, in St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Pittsfield, MA.
Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, as well as her two devoted children: Susan Fotopulos Pepps and her husband, the Rev. Angelo Pepps of Kalamazoo, MI, and Andrew J. Fotopulos and his wife, Pelagia, of Arlington, MA. Additionally, Vennie is lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren: Marissa, Elia and Stephen Pepps, Irini (Rena) and Venetia (Tia) Fotopulos. She leaves her siblings: her sister, Constance Merritt and her husband Ted of Spencer, NY, and her brother, James Neforos of Tamarack, FL, her loving sister-in-law, Helen Vardakas and her husband Spiro of Westfield, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In the end, she faced her eventual death with grace and strength. She summoned all of her will and awaited the arrival of her daughter Susan so that her loving family would be present at her side at the time of her passing.
The family wishes to thank Overlook Hospice and caregivers: Abbie, Joelene, Judy, Lidia, Mary, Nina and Shiela.
Funeral services, in celebration of her life, will be observed on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main St., Holyoke, MA, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr.
