TURNERS FALLS - Viola J. (Swinko) Allen, 88, of Keith St. died Friday 4-5-13 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.

She was born Montague April 16, 1924 the daughter of Michael and Mary (Donich) Swinko.
Viola attended Montague public schools and graduated from Turners Falls High School.
Viola worked for the Millers Falls Tool Company then later for Ingersoll Rand Company as a machine operator for many years. She was a part owner of the family business the Greenfield Paper Box Company from 1965 until the mid 70s.
She loved her flower and vegetable gardens. Viola enjoyed making braided rugs for her family and friends and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan enjoying watching the Red Sox and Patriots and watching auto racing. Viola loved animals especially her dog Pheffer and her Welch pony Dubby. She was a giver and a very generous person. Viola enjoyed barbecuing in the back yard with family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Overlook Visiting Nurses for their care and compassion.
Viola leaves her husband of almost 65 years Wayne Sr., two sons, Wayne Jr. and his wife Marion of Northfield and Michael and his companion Mary Kruzlic of Gill. She also leaves two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held in Green River Cemetery at a late date and time to be announced.
