VALLEJO, Calif. - Walter C. Phillips of Vallejo, originally of Shelburne Falls, Mass., died at the age of 76 on Feb. 11, 2013, after a lengthy illness.

He was formerly a long-time reporter, editor, and columnist for the Greenfield Recorder in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as an employee of Disneyland in Anaheim, in the 1980s. He was a writer, poet and artist of acclaim in the Small Press world throughout his life, and his collection of works is Archived at Sonoma State University in CA.
Walt, or Punky, as he was affectionately known, was preceded by his wife and soulmate, Bonnie Ada Fowler of Santa Rosa, CA, who passed away in 1999.
Walt is survived by his three children: Sindi Pierce of Worcester MA, Walter B. Phillips of Kirkland, WA, and Bess Kemp and her husband Jim of American Canyon, CA. He is also survived by his three younger sisters, five granddaughters, two grandsons, and one great-grandson.
A small memorial service is planned for April 6 at 1 p.m. at Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls. Walt will be laid to rest, along with his wife Bonnie, where they will remain ""forever one.""
