TURNERS FALLS -William "Bill" G. Chapin, 80, of Fairway Avenue, died Wednesday (11-28-12) at Poet's Seat Health Care Center in Greenfield.

He was born in Greenfield on June 3, 1932, the son of Charles and Violet (Bassett) Chapin. Bill attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of GHS, Class of 1950.
Bill was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, obtaining the rank of corporal.
He was employed as a purchasing manager at Bete Fog Nozzle for many years before retiring in 1997.
Bill was a member of St. Stanislaus and St. Kazimierz societies in Turners Falls and the Polish Club in Deerfield. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Montague Lodge of Elks. He was a bartender at St. Stan's for many years. He loved to play golf.
Among his survivors, he leaves his wife of 49 years Ellen G. (Curtin) Chapin; four daughters, Denise Downs of Greenfield, Nancy Oles and her husband Greg of Shelburne Falls, Cindy Cole and her husband Gary of Hinsdale, NH, and Tina Schneider of Greenfield; six brothers, Larry Chapin and his partner Sharon, Art Chapin and his wife Marilyn, Wayne Chapin and his wife Judi, John Chapin, Skip Hall and Jeff Hall and his wife Gayle; five sisters, Pat Webb, Betty Dobias, and her partner Charlie, Ellie Hurlbert, Barbara Hall and Donna Hall. Bill is also survived by several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Chapin and Violet Hall. A stepdaughter, Susan Call, predeceased him in 2011.
Services will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
