SWANZEY, N.H. - Edmund F. Weston 84, of Monadnock Highway, Swanzey, NH, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Westwood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Keene.
He was born in Concord, NH, June 27, 1928, the son of Richard W. and Carrie C. (Foster) Weston. He grew up in Belmont, NH, graduating from Belmont High School.
Mr. Weston was an Army veteran serving during World War II with the 88th Infantry stationed in Italy.
Following his military services, he attended Keene State College earning a degree in education. He taught math and history for 24 years at Belmont High School and later at the Winchester (NH) Elementary School. He moved to the area, residing in North Walpole, NH and Alstead, NH, before moving to Swanzey in 1996.
He was a member of the Gordon Bissell American Legion Keene Post #4, the Veterans of Foreign War Post #799 of Keene, the Disabled American Legion Keene Chapter 21, and the Polish Club of Bellows Falls, VT. He was an avid BMW motorcycle rider, riding cross-country, and was a member of the BMW Owners of America. He was also an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his son, Mark R. Weston of Lunenburg, MA; two grandchildren, Kevin Weston and Sara Weston, both of Lunenburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Myra J. (Leighton) Weston, who died March 13, 1971; and two sisters, Virginia Phelps and Elizabeth McVey.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Foley Funeral Home (www.foleyfuneralhome.com), 49 Court Street, Keene, NH. Burial with full military honors will be held in the spring in the Jamestown Cemetery, Belmont.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Foley Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Weston's memory to the Belmont High School, c/o Principal Daniel Clary, 255 Seavey Road, Belmont, NH 03220.
