GREENFIELD - Catherine (Griffin) Christian, 100, of the Weldon House entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.

Catherine (Kay or Cat) was born in Greenfield on Sept. 30, 1913, the daughter of James J. and Nora (Dempsey) Griffin. She was a Greenfield High School graduate, Class of 1931.
In the early 1940s and spanning nearly 20 years, Catherine and her husband George ran the Hotel Pharmacy in Brattleboro, VT. Catherine then transitioned to the controller's office at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst for the next 20 years before retiring.
Catherine was a volunteer at Franklin Medical Center many years.
She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.
Living at the Weldon House for over 30 years, Catherine was a very active participant in all things social, especially bridge games. She was an excellent Scrabble player, avid bowler, loved to knit Irish sweaters, and travel were amongst her interests.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Christian, in August 1979. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Morris Griffin and James Griffin, and sister, Margaret McGowan.
Amongst survivors she leaves two sons and their wives, John and Alice Christian of Titusville, NJ, James E. and Judith Christian of Agawam, MA, and a brother, John Griffin of Greenfield. She also leaves nine grandchildren: James M. Christian and his wife Melissa, Tara H. Clark and her husband William, Christopher Christian and his wife Kristen, Susan Christian, Timothy Christian and his wife Laura, Elizabeth Christian, Katieanne Christian, Paula Gerdsen and her husband Jamie and Linda Dow and her husband Jeff, and 10 great- grandchildren, Griffin and Devon Christian, Kathryn and Hope Clark, Ella and Emilie Christian and Liam and Lily Christian, Catie and Gavin Dow, Jack and Peter Gerdsen and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thank you to Dr. Adam Blacksin and his nurse Martha at CRI and Jason, Donna and Sherri for their wonderful care of Catherine.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Monday (2-10) at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal St., with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
A calling hour will be Monday from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
