GREENFIELD - Bronislaw ""Bruno"" Sowul, 94, of Phillips Street died Sunday (2-9-14) at home. He was born in Reketija, Lithuania, on May 13, 1919, the son of Antoni and Viktorija (Karmilowicz) Sowul. Bruno attended local schools in Lithuania.
He worked for the Bendix Corporation in the shipping and receiving department for over 20 years.
Bruno and his wife, the late Blanche M. Sowul, were caretakers of Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield for 30 years. The parish named Super Bowl Sunday as ""Sowul Sunday,"" to honor their service to the church.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Kosciusko in Greenfield and a member of the Knights of Lithuania, Council 10.
Among his survivors, Bruno leaves his daughter, Diane Muszynski and her husband Anthony of Greenfield; a sister, Bernice Wisnauskas and her husband Bill of Gardner; a brother, Franus Sowul of Poland; a grandson, A.J. Muszynski and his wife Hannah, and many nieces and nephews.
Bruno was predeceased by his wife, Blanche M. (Wilczewski) Sowul, on Oct. 15, 1999, after 51 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Antoni and Euguenus Sowul.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Friday (2-14-14) at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield.
A calling hour will be held Friday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield.
