COLRAIN - Mary M. (Dimond) Schneider, 86, of Colrain, died on Monday (2-17-14) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 25, 1927 in Greenfield, she was the daughter of Furber W. and Helen M. (Stafford) Dimond. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School.
Mary was married to Walter A. Schneider on June 5, 1946 in the former First Baptist Church of Greenfield, celebrating 60 years of marriage before his death on Jan. 25, 2006.
She worked at several area businesses, before settling in the library field, serving at Greenfield Public Library and Griswold Memorial Library before her retirement.
Her leisure time was spent working on miniature doll houses and needlework, reading and working crossword puzzles, bird watching, fishing, working in her flower gardens, playing piano and singing in the church choir, and traveling, especially to Goose Pond in New Hampshire. She loved to dig for bottles with her family.
Survivors include two sons and their wives: David P. and Evelyn A. of Sherman, CT, and William H. and Betty A. of Colrain; two daughters: Martha H. Schneider and Andrea L. Schneider of Colrain, and four grandsons: Scott W., Kendall W., Grant S. and Merritt Y. Schneider. She also leaves her sister, Mildred H. Grant of Greenfield.
Besides her husband, Mary was predeceased by her two brothers: Chester E. and Allen M. Dimond, and a sister, Eleanor M. Williamson.
At Mary's request, all services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Griswold Memorial Library, 12 Main Road, Colrain, MA 01340.
