ERVING - Julia S. (Waryasz) Stempel, 87, formerly of Erving, died Tuesday (2-18-14) at the New England Health Center in Sunderland.

She was born in Greenfield on March 14, 1926, the daughter of Peter and Theresa (Koolziela) Waryasz. She attended local school and was a graduate of Greenfield High School.
Julia was a machine operator in the napkin department at Erving Paper Mill for many years.
She enjoyed mushrooming, crafting, golfing and bowling. Julia loved to travel.
Among her survivors, she leaves three sons, Sylvester Jr. and his wife Debbie of Waterbury Center, VT, Ron and his wife Debbie of Greenfield and Rick and his wife Kerstin of Orange; three grandchildren, Andrew Stempel of Marshfield, MA, Ashley Stempel of Greenfield, Karli Stempel of Waterbury Center, VT, and several nieces and nephews.
Julia was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Sylvester Stempel on April 1, 2005.
Funeral services will be held Friday (2-21-14) at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit officiating. Burial will be held at Central Cemetery in Erving in the spring.
A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 10 until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at the New England Health Center, formerly Cozy Corner, for their care and compassion shown to Julia throughout her time with them.
