GREENFIELD - Robert E. Sweeney, 56, of Conway Street, died Saturday (2-22-14), as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
He was born in Norwich, NY, on Dec. 28, 1957, the son of the Rev. Arthur N. and Arlene (Willard) Sweeney. Robert was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1975.
Robert had recently become self-employed, but had worked at several establishments in Greenfield over the past 40 years, including Greenfield Community College, Green River House and Sigda's Flower Shop.
Besides his wife of 37 years, Jolanta (Guzowski) Sweeney, Robert leaves a son, Timothy R. and his wife Shawna of Pelham, MA; a daughter, Ilene J. Sweeney and her husband Marshall Banas of Guilford, VT; his mother, Arlene Sweeney of Greenfield; two brothers, David A. of Raleigh, NC, and Steven R. of Greenfield; a sister, Kathleen Phipps-Winfrey of Keokuk, Iowa, and twin granddaughters, Daphne K. and Chloe L. Banas.
He loved music and musical instruments and was a renowned musician in the area. He also loved going for adventures with his wife, Jo, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, Chloe and Daphne. He loved being outdoors and loved animals. He was a great and loving father, grandfather, son, and brother. He was well loved and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (2-28-14) at 1 p.m. at Kostanski Funeral Home 220 Federal St., Greenfield, with a calling hour from noon until the time of the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kostanski Funeral Home.
