Rae (Harrington) Blum (1932 - 2014)

ORANGE - Rae Harrington Blum passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2014.
She was born to Earl and Virginia Harrington on Jan. 2, 1932 and grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1949. She was active in Minstrel Shows, One Act Plays, basketball, and as a drum majorette for the band. Rae also spent many hours behind the counter at Harrington's News and Stationary Store- a landmark in "The Square" in Orange from the 40's through the mid-60's.
Rae was married to Bill Blum in 1953. In 1954, they had a son, Jeff, and in 1957 a second son, Steve (Jamie). In 1966, the family moved to Killington, Vt., where the family had skied for many years. In 1980, with their sons making their way in the world, Rae and Bill headed to Pinehurst, N.C.
Always athletic, Rae was an avid tennis player spending many enjoyable hours on the tennis courts. She enjoyed her many friends and volunteered her time to many local causes. Rae was also very active in design duties in the Home Building business Bill had started in Pinehurst.
Rae is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill; her eldest son, Jeff, and his partner John; her son, Steve, and his partner Darrell; grandsons, Evan and Ethan; daughter-in-law, Pam; granddaughter-in-law, Ashley, and her great-granddaughter, Victoria Rae.
A graveside service will be held at South Cemetery, 585 South Main St., Orange, on June 7th at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Rae's memory to a charity of your choosing.
