ASHFIELD - Louise Poissant died on May 19, 2014, surrounded by her loving family and friends, after a long battle with cancer.
The Guest Book is expired.
Louise was born in Great Barrington, MA, the daughter of Rita and Thomas Welch. She attended Williams High School. In her senior year, she met Eugene Poissant (from Hawley) and she went from Prom Queen to the queen of his heart. They married in 1961 and made a home in Ashfield.
Louise was a homemaker and loving mother to their three children, Tom, Rob and Kathy. She managed the books for Poissant Electric for many years. She owned and operated Double L Lanes bowling alley in Shelburne Falls (with a dear friend) for several years.
Later in life, she helped care for her four grandchildren, Nick, Cody, McKayla and Erika, who were the light of her life!
Louise loved to bake and take care of her home. She enjoyed traveling with Gene to visit her sisters in North Carolina every spring. She liked any little road trip, be it a Sunday drive to a flea market or a full day trip to a casino.
She and Gene once owned a second home for many years on Lake Champlain. Many happy memories were made there and even after they sold the house, she and Gene would visit Lake Champlain regularly fishing and boating together.
Louise was such a compassionate and giving person. She was always reaching out to family members, friends and neighbors who needed a little pick-me-up. She would visit and share her warmth and often times a homemade baked good too.
Louise's strength and courage throughout her illness will continue to be an inspiration to all who loved her. She was a wonderful wife, a loving mother, a good friend and a kind neighbor and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Poissant Jr.; her children, Tom Poissant and Pam Clark, Rob and Pam Poissant and Kathy Poissant and Cathy Stone; her grandchildren and her sisters, Francis Dahl and Harriet Crowningshield of North Carolina, along with many beloved friends and extended family.
Family, friends and neighbors are invited to an informal celebration of Louise's life on Sunday, May 25th, at 3:30 p.m. at her home at 163 Norton Hill Rd., Ashfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to: Baystate Franklin Medical Center – Oncology Dept, 164 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
