NEW SALEM - William L. ""Big Bill,' ""Duke, Clukey, 69, of Blackinton Road, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, June 21, 2014, after being stricken ill.
Born in Ellsworth, Maine, on April 25, 1945, he was a son of the late Guy and Catherine (Grindle) Clukey and moved to the Orange area at the age of 3, and graduated from Greenfield Vocational School.
In September of 1964, William married his sweetheart, Linda (Fisher), and they enjoyed their 49 years of marriage together.
William had worked at the Union Tool Co. in Orange following high school and later went to work at the Union Twist Drill in Athol for several years, followed by a brief time at the Rodney Hunt Co. in Orange. William then went to work at the Magnet Roll Co. in Easthampton for 37 years before retiring as a shop foreman. Following retirement, William worked a couple years at Lake Grove School in Wendell. He recently stated how lucky he was to have his family, home and 10 years of retirement.
Devoted to his family, William was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, but especially camping in Maine. For their 25th wedding anniversary, William and Linda had taken a tour of Maine and since retiring, have enjoyed camping in Maine for 6 to 8 weeks at a time and made numerous friends during these trips. William was very fond of the family camp in Sullivan, Maine, where he and his family spent a lot of time together. He also was an extreme animal lover, especially to his cat, ""Kalli.""
William was enthusiastic about cooking and was a huge fan of Rachel Ray and treated his family to experiencing numerous dishes and goodies, which were also shared with many others.
One of William's greatest joys was designing and building his home in New Salem
William had been a member of the Millers River Beagle Club for many years.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Linda Clukey; sons, Eric Clukey and his wife, Sunny, and Nelson Clukey and his wife, Cassy; daughters, Renee Boudreau, Roxanne Kakitis and her husband, Dan, and Candy LaPoint and her husband, Joey; grandchildren, Shawn Clukey and his fiancée, Samantha Price, Amy, Jarvenpaa, Christopher Clukey and Kelly Clukey, Steven Boudreau, Scott Boudreau, Rachel Rhodes, Jacqueline Paluilius, Craig LaPoint, Chad Morse, Michael Morse and Cati, Danielle Morse and Bill, Christopher Morse, Matt Gale and his wife, Jess, and Ricky Boudreau; great-grandchildren, Veikko Jarvenpaa and on the way, Levi Clukey; a sister, Pauline Clukey; brother, Nelson Clukey; sister in law, Jacqueline Boufford; nephew, Ricky Piper and his wife, Margaret; and best friends, Bob and Carolyn Wright and Gail and Art Will.
There are no calling hours or formal services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Athol Animal Shelter, c/o Athol Police Department, 280 Exchange St., Athol, MA 01331.
