SHELBURNE FALLS - Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Bennett) Carpenter, 82, of 77 Elm St., died Monday, June 23, 2014, at home.

Born in Colrain on Feb. 10, 1932, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Ella (LaRock) Bennett. She graduated from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.
Prior to her retirement, Betty was a certified nurse's assistant. She had worked at the former Temple House and LaBelle's Nursing Home, both in Shelburne Falls. In later years she did private duty work.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Shelburne Falls.
Betty enjoyed her family as well as gardening, shopping, and her cats.
She was married to Will H. Carpenter on Aug. 16, 1985.
Besides her husband, Betty is survived by her sons; Gary (Donna) James of Colrain, Mark (his former wife Kathy) James of Alexandria, VA, her daughter Denese (Rennie) Famosi of Charlemont; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Richmond of Colrain, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her son, Joseph "Joey" James, predeceased her on Nov. 10, 1996.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with Pastor Rev. Tony Cullen, celebrant. Burial will follow in Arms Cemetery.
A calling hour will precede the Mass from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Shelburne Falls.
