GILL - Edith (Shedd) Hastings, 99, died Sunday morning (7/13/2014) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, MA. She was born in Montague City on June 20, 1915, the daughter of Richard and Fannie Mae (Martindale) Shedd. She was educated in Bernardston, MA schools, graduating from Powers Institute in 1934 as the class salutatorian. She was married to Warren Hastings on Oct. 29, 1936 in Bernardston, MA. She sang in the Gill Church Choir and she loved to work beside her husband on their farm. She never forgot Birthdays or Anniversaries of her family members and always sent them a card. She loved spending her time with grandchildren. She was also well known for baking pies.
She is survived by two sons, Eugene ""Bud"" Hastings and his wife Lyndell of Bernardston, MA, and Ernest Hastings and his wife Judy of Gill, MA; eight grandchildren, Mike Hastings and his wife Betsy of Gill, MA, Dale Hastings of Bernardston, MA, Kerrilynn Snow and her husband Ed of Leyden, MA, Brett Hastings and his wife Michelle of Bernardston, MA, Laurie Hastings of Turners Falls, MA, David Hastings and his wife Alyn of Gill, MA, Scott Perron and his wife Chrissie of Florida and Jon Perron and his wife Kelly of Plympton, MA; 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1995, a son Leslie Hastings in 1952, a brother Allen Shedd, her twin sister Ethel Siciak and a sister Ruth Siciak.
Services will be Thursday (7/17/2014) at 11 a.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield, MA, with the Rev. David Neil officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Bernardston, MA. Calling hours will be Wednesday (7/16/2014) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
