She was born in Montague on May 17, 1960, the daughter of Irving ""Scottie"" and Jane (Schatz) Scott. Mary was a graduate of Turners Falls High School, Class of 1978. She then attended Greenfield Community College, graduating in 1981 with an Associate's Degree in Business. Mary then continued her education at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1992.
She was owner of Newton Appraisal Associates for 27 years.
Mary was very involved in her church and was a Regional Young Women's Leader. She served on the Greenfield Planning Board for nine years.
Mary adored her children and was an avid member of her church.
Besides her beloved husband of 31 years, John W. Newton, Mary leaves her children, Laura Newton and Samuel Newton, all of Greenfield; her mother, Jane Scott of Turners Falls; two brothers, Gary Scott and his wife Edie of Leyden and Kyle Scott of Turners Falls, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her father, Irving ""Scottie"" Scott, on Jan. 23, 2004.
Funeral services will be held Friday (8-8) at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 23 Brigham Lane, Amherst, MA. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery in Turners Falls.
Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield.
