MONTAGUE – Samuel Green, 77, of Montague, died peacefully at home on Sept. 24, 2012 from heart failure.
He was born in Philadelphia on April 7, 1935. He was buried at Temple Israel Cemetery in Greenfield.
He had a PhD in Engineering from MIT (1971) and a MA from Antioch in Psychology (1983). These two degrees point to his varied career. During his first career, he designed computers and programs and taught at Northeastern. During his second career, he was a psychotherapist with a private practice, West River Center in Brattleboro, Vt. He used all these skills to help many people. He was loved by his therapy clients. He built data bases for a number of local non-profits including Music in Deerfield, Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, Hitchcock Center and Dharma Seed.
He leaves his survivors in great sadness: Micky McKinley, wife; Shoshanna Green, daughter; Geoff Hart, son-in-law; Jonas Green, son; Mary-Alice Green, daughter-in-law.
He took great joy in the garden and natural beauty. He was a wonderful dancer as well as music lover, traveler and excellent father, husband and friend. Samuel was a man of enormous generosity and a supporter of progressive causes.
Donations in his honor may be made to the Hitchcock Center, 525 S. Pleasant St., Amherst, MA 01002.
There will be a memorial on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Montague Retreat Center, 177 Ripley Road, Montague.
