ERVING - Sandra L. (Pine) Miner, 71, of River Street, died Tuesday (10-30-12) peacefully in her sleep at home.
She was born in Montague on Aug. 22, 1941, the daughter of Raymond and Josephine (Kuklewicz) Pine. She attended local schools in Turners Falls and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School, Class of 1959.
Sandy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, whether it was sitting on the patio eating snacks, in the kitchen teaching them her secrets of cooking, or patiently trying to teach them to knit.
She was an avid knitter, not only for her family and friends, but Sandy also started several knitting charities and wrote knitting books containing patterns that she had created. She also knitted and donated baby sweaters to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Association. She surely has touched many people all over the world with her love and generosity of knitting.
Sandy was the president of the Gill-Montague Education Fund, an organization that she stood behind and felt truly honored to be a part of.
Besides her husband, Robert H. Miner of 49 years, Sandy leaves three sons, Timothy Miner of Texas, John Miner and his wife Nicole of Turners Falls and Daniel Miner and his wife Elizabeth of Montague; two daughters, JoEllen Miner of South Deerfield and Dawn Miner of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Michael and Harry Kennedy and Emma, Kaitlyn and Christopher Miner; a brother, James Pine of CT, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday (11-5-12) at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Millers Falls.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gill-Montague Educational Fund, P.O. Box 383, Turners Falls, MA 01376.
