WEST DOVER, Vt. - Susan M. Koncal, 53, of 9 Wolff Lane, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., following a brief illness.
Born on Sept. 9, 1959 in Greenfield, Mass., she was the daughter of William and Natalie (Carr) Koncal. She attended schools in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1978 and attended GCC and JCC.
Quote from Susan's high school yearbook, "Be what you are." "Plans to go to college and then to work."
After several years living in Greenfield, Susan had resided in Jamestown, N.Y., before making her home in the rolling hills of West Dover.
She was employed in the restaurant industry for over 35 years and worked at several restaurants including Howard Johnson's, Bob Evans, Chili's and Applebee's. She was a ski instructor at Berkshire East in Charlemont, Mass., and a ski instructor and ambassador at Mount Snow in Dover.
Susan had a sense of humor and made those around her laugh. You never knew what Susan was going to say!
Susan was an excellent cook who loved to bake pies and make fudge that she would share with family and friends. She enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, trout fishing, painting and vacationing in Rockport and Gloucester, Mass. Susan was at peace while at home in Vermont where she enjoyed the great outdoors and loved the company of her cats "Bucky" and "Tiki."
Susan is survived by her father and mother, William and Natalie of Greenfield; her sisters, Cheryl Green and husband John of Oak Ridge, N.C., and Michelle (Mone) Pike and husband Fritz of Greenfield; her brother, Christopher and wife Kathleen of Safety Harbor, Fla., and her nephews and nieces, Eric and Rebecca Green of Oak Ridge and Kyle, Katie and Kole Koncal of Safety Harbor, as well as several relatives and friends.
