LITTLETON, Maine - Norville Hersey, 81, of Littleton, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1931 at Monticello, the son of Clarence and Florence (Peterson) Hersey.
A Korean War veteran, Norville served honorably from 1952 to 1954 in the U.S. Army and received the Presidential Unit Citation award. Upon returning, he married Lois Burtt, the love of his life, and moved to Connecticut where they eventually had four sons.
He landed a machinist job at Pratt & Whitney United Technologies and worked there 36 years to support his family. When he retired, they relocated near his hometown in Littleton.
Norville "Sam" was an avid golfer and a member of the Houlton Community Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing with his regular partners, Newell, Bob, Matt, Max, Frank and other friends and family.
Norville is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 57 years, Lois; four sons, Stephen N. Hersey of Mystic, CT, Allison C. Hersey and his wife Patricia of Columbia, MD, Terry S. Hersey and his wife, Roberta of Easthampton, MA, and Glenn W. Hersey and his wife, Kimberley of Turners Falls, MA; nine grandchildren, Kayte, Jillian, Jennifer, Garrison, Chris, Jason, Scott, Shannon and Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Tyler, two brothers, Douglas Hersey of Monticello and Phillip Hersey of Littleton, Maine; three sisters, Carole McKenney of Monticello, Iris Woodward and her husband, George, of Beals Island and Louise Corey of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and Newell Hersey, and one sister, Geraldine (Hersey) Graham.
Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home on Monday at 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 with Pastor George Woodward officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be announced in the late spring at Jewell Cemetery.
