Carolyn N. (Desbrus) Garbiel of Greenfield, MA, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 at Wingate at West Springfield, MA, after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Felix and Dorothy (Guyette) Desbrus of Greenfield.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born in Greenfield on Dec. 1, 1947. She is survived by her son, Scott Garbiel of Pittsfield, ME; her daughter, Jennifer Garbiel of Holyoke, MA; two grandchildren, Isabella and Cooper of Holyoke, and her life companion, David Sherman of Greenfield.
She was a graduate of Greenfield High School and attended Greenfield Community College. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Greenfield. Her passionate love of animals prompted her to open Carolyn's Critter and Cottage Care. You could often see Carolyn's van with several black noses pressed against the windows on their way to their daily walk.
Carolyn enjoyed golfing, bird watching, gardening and traveling. She had visited China, Europe, The Caribbean and many areas of the U.S.
Carolyn made friends wherever she went, from a tiny bakery in the Highlands of Scotland to strangers on the Great Wall of China to a pastry chef on a cruise ship in the Caribbean.
Her smile was contagious and she had a special laugh all her own. Anyone who knew her and was the recipient of a "Carolyn Hug" will never forget it or her. She invites visitors to share favorite stories of her at the calling hours.
Calling hours will be at Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, on Sunday, Aug. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. The burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
