WENDELL - Haldimand Sumner Putnam III, 71, of Wendell, MA, passed peacefully at home on Feb. 1, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. Haldimand ""Hob"" was the son of the late Haldimand S. Putnam Jr. and Barbara M. (Leeman) Putnam. He was the loving husband of 46 years to Judith N. (Goff) Putnam.
Hob was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Hob had an enormous personality, loved life, and loved sharing it with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Hob is survived by his wife, Judith; his three sons: Haldimand ""Hal"" S. Putnam IV and his wife Greta of Wibraham, MA, Parker L. Putnam and his wife Michelle of Petersham, MA, and Daniel N. Putnam and his wife Caissie of Wendell, MA. He is also survived by the grandchildren he loved and adored: Zachary J., Haldimand S. ""Sumner"", Stephen H., Maya L. and Ruby L. He also leaves his sisters: Holly Murray and her husband Paul of Wilbraham, MA, and Beth Putnam of Pittsfield, MA.
He was predeceased by his younger brother, Dustin Putnam.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday (2-6-14) at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Montague Center, 4 North St., Montague, MA.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Haldimand S. Putnam III may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or to Cooley Dickinson Hospital Cancer Center, P.O. Box 329, Northampton, MA 01061.
