He was born in Greenfield on July 9, 1923, the son of Roy A. and May (Foster) Call.
Les attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School.
Les served in the United States Army as a Sergeant for the Company B 118th Engineers Combat Battalion. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the European African Mille Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory medal and the Bronze Star Medal.
Les was an engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Right of Way Department for many years until his retirement.
Les was a member of the Lions Club where he was presented with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Service. He was a past member of the Greenfield Country Club and he enjoyed golf, tennis and bowling. He also liked watching golf and old movies on television. He took extreme pride in always being there for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Among his survivors, Les leaves five sons, Robert L., Gregory F. and his wife Margaret "Peg," Edward A., all of Greenfield, David L. and his wife Karen of Greenfield, Indiana, and Stephen T. and his wife Michelle of Millers Falls, his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jason Winslow, his wife Christina and their children, Grace, Ella Rose, Annalise and Amelia; Bryan Call; Kellyjean Call; Samantha Call and her daughter, Nevaeh; Jenifer Call and her daughter, Isabella; Tiffany Thomas, her husband Angelo and their son, Grayson; Ali Call and her daughter, Ayva; Kyle Bourbeau, his wife, Liz and their daughter, Katherine; and Kearstin Harrington, her husband, Adam and their children, Jayden and Jaxon and many nieces and nephews.
Les was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean P. (Powers) Call on June 26, 1995, two brothers, Harold and Ed Call his grandson, Aaron Call, and his daughter-in-law, Susan Call.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 5/7/14 at 9:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church with the Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
