Shirley A. Yankowski

1929 - 2015

GREENFIELD - Shirley A. (Winseck) Yankowski, 86, of Summer Street died Tuesday 3/10/15 at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield. She was born in Greenfield on March 4, 1929, the daughter of Edward and Katherine (Jasiemski) Winseck. Shirley attended local schools in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School Class of 1947.
She worked in the social services department at the Eden Park Nursing Home for 38 years. After her retirement, Shirley worked at the Yankee Candle Company.
She was a volunteer at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. Shirley loved the Red Sox. She enjoyed baking, especially chocolate cream pies for her nephews and cooking lunch for her son, Jamie. She also enjoyed shopping and going to lunch with her daughter Pati. One of her favorite past times was attending her granddaughter's volleyball games and swim meets.
Among her survivors, Shirley leaves her son, Jamie Yankowski and his wife Nancy Barry of Turners Falls, a daughter, Patricia Yankowski and her fiancé, Don Bidwell, Jr., of Berlin, CT, a brother, Fred Winseck of Jupiter, FL, two granddaughters, Jay Yankowski and her fiancé Jon Galenski and Kelly Yankowski and her fiancé Jason Liimatainen and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Edward Mieczkowski in 1999, and her siblings, Edward, Joseph, John, Billy, Stella and Laura.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 3/14 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh Street, Turners Falls with the Rev. Stanley Aksamit officiating. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield.
Calling hours will be held Saturday morning from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield.
