Thomas Mallet Obituary

WARWICK, MA – Thomas J. Mallet, 53, of 620 Old Winchester Rd, died unexpectedly at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester.
He was born June 20th, 1962 in Sau Paulo, CA, the son of Theodore J. Mallet of Athol, and the late Patricia R. (Cleveland) Mallet. He grew up in Athol, and graduated from the Athol High School in 1980. Shortly after graduating he joined the United States Marine Corps, and traveled all over the world as he served our country for four years.
After his service he returned to the Athol area and worked a number of jobs including a bouncer for the Mr. Moonlight Bar, managing a gas station on Main Street, Label Art, direct care giver at the Fernald School (now known as the Templeton Development Center) and he also worked at the Erving Paper Mill. He was always involved with the family rubbish business and at one point owned and operated his own company as well. His most recent job was for the Merrifield Bus Company, where he enjoyed being a bus driver for many years.
He was an avid supporter of the NRA, GOAL and numerous fish and game clubs, and always spoke in favor of the Second Amendment. Tommy, as his friends and family knew him, played softball, coached pee wee, cut down trees, and trapped beavers; The Soap Guy did it all, he liked to say. The one thing he always wanted to do was drive a tractor trailer truck across the country. He came very close to that dream; he recently graduated from United Tractor Trailer School and accepted a job offer for Werner Trucking.
Besides his father, Theodore J. Mallet, Sr. of Athol; he leaves his beloved fiancée of several years, Gwen Moon; two sons, Travis Brailey of Athol, Jefferey Mallet of South Burlington, VT; a daughter, Shauna Mallet Smith and her husband, Matthew, of Winchester, NH; a step-daughter, Keara Mayer, of Michigan; three grandchildren, Silas Smith and Liam Smith, both of Winchester, NH, and Morgan Brailey, of Athol; three brothers, Theodore J. Mallet and his wife, Mary of Athol; Robert D. Mallet and his wife Natalie, of Athol; Lance E. Mallet and his wife, Mandy, of Warwick; and a sister, Andrea R. Conrad and her husband, Rodney, of Fitchburg and a Godson, Phillip W. Mailhiot, II. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and an incredibly large circle of friends. Tommy was predeceased by his mother, Patricia in 2005.
Tommy was always known for a good laugh. He enjoyed people and had a number of hobbies. He was best known for being a skilled hunter, bowman and gunman, but also enjoyed a number of other hobbies including coin collecting and metal detecting, which embraced his love for history. More than anything at all, though, he loved his children and his grandchildren, and you couldn't bring up any subject without them being introduced into the conversation by him somehow. When he wasn't talking about them, he wasn't talking, and if you knew Tommy, you knew he was ALWAYS talking.
Calling hours will be Thursday October 15th, from 6 -8 at Witty's Funeral Home at 158 South Main Street, Orange. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, October 17th, from 10 – 1, at the Orange Legion at 40 Daniel Shays Hwy, Orange, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests becoming an organ donor, or memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation

I haven't know Tom for long but I enjoyed his company on days we would get together to go metal detecting. He always had something humorous to say and would make a long hike on a hot day seem enjoyable. I will miss him.
