Donald LaChance Obituary

Donald E. LaChance 82, of Gill, MA.
His fight with cancer ended at his home on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Don was born in Greenfield, MA to Rosario W. and Verna (Munson) LaChance.
Don was known for his smile and good sense of humor. He was a passionate, hardworking man who enjoyed watching his four children who were born, raised and educated at the Mt Hermon campus. He took great pride and pleasure in being a true New England craftsman. Don also enjoyed spending vacations throughout New England with his wife Ronnie and their four children. For 37 years Don along with his brother-in-law A.R. Sandri worked on various land projects in Winchester, NH.
He also enjoyed playing board and card games especially with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Upon graduating from Greenfield High School Don honorably served in the US Navy as aircraft mechanic between November 1952 thru November 1956.
Don was a dedicated manager of plant facilities for 46 years at Northfield Mount Hermon School. Upon retiring he stayed on for additional 2 years as a consultant for capital projects Don served on the Gill fire department, finance committee, assessors and as a selectman.
He also volunteered as a little league baseball coach, scout master, constable at Gill election polls and as president and treasurer of Mt Road Estates condominium.
Don is survived by his wife Ronnie (Rozak) of 59 years, their four children Michael LaChance and his wife Jeanne of Exeter, RI, Christopher LaChance and wife Lauri of Marblehead, MA, Susan LaPan and her partner Thomas Helbig of Turners Falls, MA, Lori LaChance of Greenfield, MA as well as six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Don was predeceased by his sister Lois J. Sandri, his brother Robert W. LaChance and granddaughter Meghan J. LaPan.
Calling hours will be held Saturday 10/29/16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, MA.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2:30 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel, Northfield Mount Hermon School, Mount Hermon.
Donations are suggested to Northfield Mount Hermon and designated in support of Plant & Property. Checks can be made payable to NMH and mailed to: NMH, Advancement Gift Office, One Lamplighter Way, Mount Herman, MA. 01354. Please note on the check that the gift is in memory of Don LaChance.
