LeRoy H. Hartley, 82, of Kelso peacefully slipped away from his loved-ones April 20, 2014, after a brief bout of pneumonia at St. John Medical Center.
He was born July 10, 1931, to Leonard and Hazel Hartley in Midvale, Idaho. After he served in the Air Force, he worked in construction until retiring in 1990. He moved to Kelso in 2008 from Porterville, Calif., after his precious wife of 50 years, Ruby passed away.
Pa-Paw's vivacious personality, his zest for life, and his stories will always be remembered and cherished. He enjoyed family gatherings, loved to travel, wrote poetry, and studied the Bible. His Christian faith, family and friends meant everything to him. He dined at Shari's Restaurant daily and made friends with everyone he talked to. Many people enjoyed his love for crazy fun hats. You never knew what kind of hat he might show up in. He was an active, well-loved member of the Pacific Way Church of Christ. He was also, for many years, a member of the Linda Vista Church of Christ in Porterville, Calif., where he had many close friends, including John and Shirley McGuire.
Survivors include a brother, Don (Leah) Hartley; two sons, Mickey (Cheryl) Nation and Joe Nation; 11 grandchildren, Ronda, Mike, David, Matt, Lindsey, Mark, Jeff, Traci, Paul, Kim and Kelly; several great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Cary Butler; a niece, Sherryl; and a nephew, David.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Jack; and two daughters, Ann Nation and Linda Butler.
A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at Pacific Way Church of Christ, 4634 Pacific Way, in Longview.
Arrangements are by Columbia Funeral Service.
A later memorial service is being planned at the Linda Vista Church of Christ building in Porterville.
