December 8, 2013, the world lost a strong, kind and loving man. Stanley Wayne Parnell was born in Arkansas on December 21, 1947. As an infant his parents, and eight brothers and sisters moved to California. He spent the majority of his life in Porterville, CA. He graduated Porterville High School in 1966. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army
, where he served as a medic in Alaska.
After returning from the army he pursued a career as a Psychiatric Technician at the Porterville Developmental Center. He retired after working there for over thirty years.
Throughout his life family, music and at time, fishing had been his passions. Stan raised his daughter Kelly Garcia, the light of his life, found his soul mate Sandy and they spent twenty four happy years together. Stan was a father and grandfather to her children and their children alike.
Stan grew up in a musical family and continued the tradition by playing guitar and singing as a youth. Starting with highschool he played and sang in 'The Countrymen" and "Stan and the Caravan". His last six years, he could be found playing and singing with the "Dawg House Boys" which includes his good friends: David Martin, Bob Purdin, Dennis Hilliard, Les Hudspeth, Mike Sailee, Jim Kemp, and Bob Bartlett. He shared his musical talents with his grandchildren Nikole and Clayton Fox, but all the grandchildren loved to hear him play and sing.
Stan is survived by his loving wife Sandy Parnell; brothers Larry Parnell (Maryellen), Gerald Parnell (Collette), Dennis Parnell (Jan), Ken Parnell (Billy), Fred Parnell (Rachel); sisters Nan Parnell, Judy Collier (Jim), Lou Vandemark (Don); children Casey Wilson, Bethany Brown (David), Josh Wilson (Eursela), Matthew Wilson; grandchildren Nikole Fox, Clayton Fox, Sevyn Garcia, Kennedy Garcia, Dustin Wilson, Amber Reeece, Katheryne Reece, Joshua Garcia, Aaron Garcia; dear friends Davia and Francis Martin and numerous other family and friends. Stan was preceeded in death by daughter Kelly Garcia; mother Ida Parnell; father Hillard Clayton Parnell and numerous family and friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Meyers Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 am with a reception to follow.
