After sunrise on the morning of June 17, 2014, Cliff passed away at home in Lindsay, California, as a result of a terminal illness. He was being cared for by his family and Hospice. Cliff was 82 years old. He was born on August 15, 1931, in Yuma, Colorado, to Thelma Darline and Hoyt York. Before becoming a long time resident of Lindsay, CA, in 1946, he was raised in Granite Falls, and surrounding towns in the beautiful state of Washington. He attended Lindsay High School and was the Football MVP his senior year 1949/1950 and attended Porterville Junior College. On May 18, 1951, he married his High School Sweetheart, Verbeth Joy Harris and served in the Korean War as a Corporal in the Army and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1960. Cliff was a local proprietor and owned Cliff's TV Sales and Service for 27 years. Cliff will be especially remembered for his humor and joke of the day, being a football fanatic, excellent golfer, always having a smile on his face, a positive attitude, hard worker, he liked a good steak and loved blackberry pie, and was the best handyman ever. He was a jack of all trades and he could fix anything. Most of all, he was a loving husband, a wonderful Dad and the best grandpa, and a wonderful friend to all. He is survived by wife Verbeth York nee Harris, mother Darline York nee Quick, children Vonya Smalley, and husband Steve, Timothy York, and wife Jeannie, Grandchildren Tracy Slater and Cristine Campbell, Great Grandchildren Stephanie, Jonathon and Joshua Slater and Haley and Annabelle Campbell. Sister Judy Price and preceded in death by Father Hoyt York, Brother Gene York and Grandson David Mattocks, Jr.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, at the New Beginnings Church, 835 W. Tulare Rd., Lindsay, CA. All are welcome at the Celebration of Life service and the reception immediately following the service. Burial will be held in private for Relatives and close friends.
