Agnes "Lynn" Starks, age 91, a long time resident of Porterville, passed away on Thursday, July 24th, 2014. Lynn was born on May 2nd, 1923 in El Monte, CA. She resided in El Monte until she moved to Santa Barbara, CA to attend Santa Barbara College. She then met and married, James H. Starks in March of 1945. They were married for 59 years, until his passing in 2004. Together, they moved around the United States while he was in the Army Air Corps. After World War II, Jim and Lynn moved to Porterville, CA where they spent the rest of their lives.
Lynn was a loving homemaker, an active member of PTA for both of her children, a member of the Methodist Church, and a volunteer Pink Lady at Sierra View District Hospital, where she knitted hats for newborns. Her hobbies included golfing, camping, and traveling with her husband, friends, and family. She was very involved in her children and grandchildren's lives, attending all dance recitals, awards assemblies, and holidays in both Porterville and San Luis Obispo, CA. Her infectious laugh, fun sense of humor, and unconditional love for family will be missed dearly.
Lynn was preceded in death by her brother, Max Ireland, her parents, Max and Majesta Ireland, her grandson, Preston Starks, her daughter, Patricia Starks, and her husband, James H. Starks. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debbie Starks of Porterville, and her grandchildren, Kristin Starks of Visalia, Greg Chambers and wife, Tracey of Ventura, Alison Brigham and husband, Jory of Los Osos, and Ashlee Starks of Porterville, along with five great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held Friday, August 1st, 2014 at Myers Chapel at 1:30 pm.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Eva Marie Felix and all at Bella Home in Porterville for their loving care of Lynn. They would also like to thank Tim Short of Optimal Hospice Care for his excellent care and support.
