John R. Srofe, age 89, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday evening, November 19, 2014 at the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Hillsboro Cemetery. Brad Clouse will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Highland County Honor Guard. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Vienna Church of Christ, 148 West Street, New Vienna, Ohio 45159 or the Hospice of Hope, 215 Hughes Blvd., Mt. Orab, Ohio 45154. The funeral service for Terry R. Deck, age 20, of Washington CH, was held on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Crossroads Church with Todd Maurer officiating. Pallbearers for burial at the Washington Cemetery were Cody Self, Luke and Brian Carlson, Brandon Wise, Geraldo Vazquez and Ryan Tarbutton. Terry passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2014 as a result of an auto accident. Arrangements were under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Freeda U. Edwards, age 96, of Washington CH, was held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Danny Creamer officiating. Music was presented by Denise Spangler and Nana Hollar. Pallbearers for burial at the Highlawn Cemetery were Jim and Billy Jarrett, Bob Haines, Jerry, Ron and Donnie Butcher and Roger Mullikin. Mrs. Edwards passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the St. Catherine's Manor.

Ellars, James E.  
James "Jim" E. Ellars Jr., age 72, of Washington CH, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 12:45 p.m. at Signature Healthcare of Fayette County. He was born on June 22, 1942 in Fayette County to James Sr. and Naomi Kimmey Ellars. He had worked as a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed working on cars, riding motorcycles and was a good handyman. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Cathryn Ellars and his brother, Charles Cox. Survivors include his children James E. Ellars III, Dawn Forsythe, Jama Ellars, Judy Ellars McCreary and Jocelyn Ellars; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; siblings Connie Jones, Sharon Downard and Oma Marie Ellars as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home. Gleadall, Richard Barrett  
Richard Barrett Gleadall, 85, formerly of Washington Court House, Ohio died Monday, November 17, 2014, at 6:13 a.m. at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Tina Gleadall of Mount Juliet, TN where Mr. Gleadall had been residing the past four years. He was born August 15, 1929, in Leesburg, Ohio to Harold Henry and Loran Elizabeth Barrett Gleadall. He was a 1947 graduate of Fairfield High School in Leesburg and attended Wilmington College. He lived most of his life in this community before moving to Tennessee to be with family. He retired in 1988 as a purchasing agent for Armco Building Systems where he worked for over 31 years. He also had formerly served as clerk for Union Township. Mr. Gleadall was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church; a 50-year member of Fayette Lodge #107, F&AM; 32nd Degree Masons, Valley of Columbus and AARP. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Paul H. Hughey Post #25 of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joy E. Cockerill on October 1, 2000; by a son, Steven M. Gleadall on Nov. 1, 1975; by his parents and two brothers, Robert Dean Gleadall and Harold Henry Gleadall, II. Mr. Gleadall is survived by a son, Richard B. Gleadall, II and his wife, Tina, of Mount Juliet, TN; three granddaughters, Jessica Gleadall, Erica Boyer and her husband, David, and Stephany Gleadall; two great grandchildren, Sonorah and Novalee Boyer, all of Tennessee; a step-grandson, Joel Pletcher and his wife, Kimberly, of Kansas, City, MO and a step great granddaughter, Sabrina Pletcher. The funeral will be Friday, November 21, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with the Rev. Bud Leskovac, pastor at the Harlem Road United Methodist Church in Galena, officiating. Burial will follow in the Highlawn Cemetery. The funeral service for Rebecca L. Henderson, age 49, of Washington CH was held on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Clary officiating. Pallbearers for burial at the Washington Cemetery were John Storer, Derek Mitchell, Jerry Edwards, Kevin Mongold, Jeff Henderson and Dennis Bick. Mrs. Henderson passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at her home.

Hill, Arnold H.  
Arnold H. Hill, 73, of Bloomingburg passed away at his residence on November 15, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of Clinton county. He was born April 29, 1941 to the late Doral and Beulah Myers Hill in Columbus, Ohio. He retired from Perkin Elmer where he was a Field Service Engineer. He and his wife owned Woodsmoke Farms Antiques and did many shows together. Many people know Arnold from his work in the Boy Scout Troop 97. He was Cubmaster of Pack 797 and Scoutmaster of Troop 97 in New Vienna where he led two trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and one trip to the Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and attended Wood Badge Training. He held the Starwanamak Award and Tecumseh District Award of Merit. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Hill was a former Sunday School Superintendent and member of the New Vienna United Methodist Church and a former member of the F&AM Lodge in New Vienna. Arnold was married to Margaret "Peggy" Fawley Hill on July 20, 1974 in Newport, Kentucky. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hill. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Adam (Angela) Hill of New Mexico, a daughter, Sarah (Rob) Kelley of Chillicothe, a sister, Victoria (Barry) Cunningham of Harrisburg, three grandchildren, Aubriegh Hill of Bloomingburg, Ethan Hill of Olympia Washington , Emma Jo Hill of New Mexico and two step grand daughters, Alexandra and Ahlyvia Montgomery both of Dayton. Private family services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Health Alliance of Clinton County, P.O. The funeral service for Josh Leaverton, age 24, of Washington CH, was held on Sunday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church with Todd Wallace officiating. Pallbearers for burial at the White Oak Grove Cemetery were David, Ralph and Marty Leaverton, Ryan and Kyle May and Chris Everetts. Josh passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Bismarck, North Dakota as a result of an auto accident. Arrangements were under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home.

Lucas, William  
William Lucas, Jr., 89, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Sunday, November 16, 2014, at 3:10 p.m. at his residence. Bill was born October 19, 1925, in Fayette Co., Ohio to William and Opal B. Rowe Lucas. He lived most of his life in Fayette County. Before his retirement, he was a butcher and grocer and had been an insurance agent and automobile and real estate salesman. He was a member and former director of the Fayette County Commission on Aging and had served as a regional director for the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging. He was a World War II veteran. As a Navy corpsman, he was attached to the First Marine Division in the South Pacific and was in the Battles of Peleliu and Okinawa. He was a member of Paul H. Hughey Post #25 of the American Legion and O.E. Hardway Post #3762 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jo Ann Pope on February 14, 2008; by a daughter, Janine Lucas in 1951; a great grandson, Cayden Thomas Noel in 2007, and a sister, Betty Allen in 1987. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Donna Lucas of Washington Court House and Kent Lucas and Lisa Humphreys of Chillicothe; three granddaughters, Jill Lucas of Tampa, FL; Jodi Noel of Jeffersonville and Julie Jenkins and her husband, Jamey, of Plant City, FL.; five great grandchildren, Brett, Abigail, Lucas and Landon Jenkins and Jaylynn Noel; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and a special nephew, Bruce Allen of Dallas, TX. In keeping with his wishes, cremation took place. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at a later date in the Washington Cemetery. Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Honor Flight Columbus, P.O. Maughmer, Paul L.  
Paul L. Maughmer, 92, passed away from this life at St. Catherine's Manor on November 17, 2014. He was born September 9, 1922 in Washington C.H to the late Everett and Minnie Moats Maughmer. He spent most of his life in Washington C.H and winters in Florida. He was a 1940 graduate of Washington High School and soon after joined the U.S. Air Corps. He had the rank of Tech Sergeant and spent time in Panama and Texas. He loved fishing in Canada and golfing. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge #107 for over 60 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he was an elder for many years and taught Sunday School and later became the Crossroads Christian Church where he attended. He was the owner of Roney's Auto Parts for many years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers; Robert and Richard Maughmer and a sister, Marian Bowers. He is survived by his wife of 70 years whom he married June 9, 1944, Roma Jean Roush Maughmer, a sister in law, Grace Roush of Jamestown, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Crossroads Christian Church at 1:00 p.m with Todd Maurer and Jon Creamer officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Crossroads Church on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
