Barbara Jean Smith, 86, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Monday, April 14, 2014, at 10:24 p.m. at her residence. She had been in failing health.
Mrs. Smith was born September 9, 1927, in Fayette County, Ohio to Harry D. and Donna Lucille Harrop Zimmerman. She was a graduate of Washington High School and a lifelong resident of this community.
Before her retirement, she was Chief Deputy Clerk for the Fayette County Probate-Juvenile Court.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church; Washington C.H. Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a former long-time member of the Washington Lioness Club.
On March 15, 1947, she married Dale Lutz Smith. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2007. She was also preceded by her father in 1945; her mother in 1999; her step father, Charles P. Wagner, in 1983 and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elinor and Ralph Carter.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Tracy Smith of Washington Court House; three grandchildren, Dale Shane Smith and his wife, Rachael, of Columbus, Michelle L. Carter and her husband, Jack, of Atlantic Beach, Florida and Nathan Warner of Washington C.H.; a great granddaughter, Dale Marie Smith and a nephew, Stephen Carter, of Columbus.
A private graveside service, in Washington Cemetery, will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
