A funeral service for James W. "Jim" Brooks, age 83, of Washington Court House, formerly of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Ben Foulk officiating. Burial will take place at Perryton Cemetery.
Mr. Brooks passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Fayette County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 20, 1929 in Alexandria, Ohio to the late Oscar W. and Amy A. (Mitchell) Brooks.
Jim retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas. He was a member of the Church of Christ in W.C.H. and was a former member of Marne United Methodist Church in Newark.
He is survived by a step-daughter, Beverly (Jim) Moore of Washington C.H., a step-son, Greg (Nancy) Hitchcock of Heath; grandchildren, Kim Merrill (Bruce), Curtis (Tina) Thoma, Greg Hitchcock and fiancée, Angel, Crystal Hitchcock and fiancé, Todd; Max Craig Corns, Bethany (Beau) Shaw and James Blake Moore; fourteen great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sara Byers of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his .parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Gladys and Lauretta June; by a granddaughter, Wendy Edgerley; two great-grandchildren; five brothers and their spouses, Oscar (Betty), Lewis (Betty), Kenneth, Francis and Wynette (Jean) Brooks; and brother-in-law, Forrest Wayne Byers.
Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
