Benjamin F. "Ben" Collins, 99, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 4:33 p.m. at his residence.
Mr. Collins was born December 20, 1914, in Whalen, Kentucky, the son of the late Thomas and Fannie Collins.
He had served in the 3C Camp; worked for various lumberyards, coal mines, and neighboring farms, the Sugar Creek Stone Quarry and Cudahy's. He always made sure he took care of his wife and children.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mae Russell on Nov. 28, 2001; by a daughter, Esther Collins on Nov. 28, 2005; an infant son, Charles (Buddy) Collins on Sept. 12, 1941; four sisters, Artie Hartman, Caroline Howard, Enos Gillman and Frances Collins; two brothers, Noah Collins and Edward Collins and a son-in-law, Rodney Mongold.
He is survived by eight children, Elizabeth Mongold, Amanda (Mike) Yambor, Gary Collins, Larry (Vickie) Collins, all of Washington Court House; Phyllis (Terry) Greathouse of Chillicothe, Margaret (Ronald) Bonecutter of Jerry City, Ohio, Leonard (Charlene) Collins of Barberton and Marvin (Romona) Collins of New Holland; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; a sister, Josephine (James) Leber of Norwalk; a brother, Edgil (Beatrice) Collins of Fremont and a sister-in-law, Bernadine Collins of Alliance.
The funeral will be Monday, August 11, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with the Rev. Kenneth Bogard officiating. A graveside service will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Buckhorn Cemetery in Lawrence County, Ohio.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
