JOHN E. "DUKE" JONES, age 82, of Washington CH, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 1:55 a.m. at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center where he had been a patient since December.

He was born on August 2, 1931 in Fayette County to Leonard and Doris Tumbelson Jones. He was a welder at Lowe's Welding before his retirement in 1984. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post #25 and Veterans Post #3762. He was also a member of the Fayette Masonic Lodge #107 and was an avid card player.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Stella Jones, his brother Paul Jones and sister Ruth McDonald.

Survivors include his son, Danny, and his wife Jeanie Jones of Washington CH; grandchildren Melissa (Roy) Corey of Chillicothe and Jason (Kym) Jones of Columbus, Lance and Broc Happenny of Washington CH; great-grandchildren Eryc, Evan and Courtney Corey, Kara Happenny, Addyson Jones, and Corbin Evans. He is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth (Alice) Jones of Marysville, Tom Jones of Bloomingburg and one sister, JoLynn Jones of Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Chaplin James Kiger of Hospice of Fayette County officiating with burial to follow in the Bloomingburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with Masonic services to follow.
