Lillian Bernease Courtney Priest age 89 of Leesburg died Tuesday morning April 8, 2014 at the Heartland of Hillsboro. She was born December 1, 1924 in Belfast Ohio the daughter of the late Ova Harry and Mary Catherine McClure Courtney. Mrs. Priest had served as Mayor of the Village of Leesburg for six years and had served on Village Council for sixteen years. She was a member of the Highland County Republican Central Committee, the Highland County Republican Executive Committee, the Highland County Republican Century Club, the Highland County Republican Women's Club, the Ohio Federation of Republican Women, was past South District Vice-President of the Ohio Federation of Republican Women, had served as county chairperson for several elected Republicans, had worked for over 30 years helping with elections in her precinct, had served on the Highland County Planning Commission, was a member of the Leesburg Chapter #57 Order of Eastern Star, member of the Leesburg Lions Club, Leesburg Altruistic Club, Leesburg Wednesday Club, Leesburg United Methodist Church and had served as President of the Leesburg United Methodist Women, was a member of the Highland County Historical Society, Highland County Chamber of Commerce, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, had served as secretary of the Highland County Veterans Service Commission, had helped organize the Leesburg Community Scholarship, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed little league baseball and all of the Fairfield Lions sporting events and had been awarded a lifetime pass to all of the Fairfield Lions Sporting Events by the Fairfield Athletic Department and presented to her by Jim D. Cook. Bernease was also an avid tennis fan attending the ATP Tournaments at Kings Island. She received a Community Leadership Award in 2000 from Leadership Highland and an Exemplary Service Award from the Highland County Chamber of Commerce in 2002. She is survived by one daughter, Shawn C. Priest of Leesburg, one grandson, Piedmont, two sisters, Jean (Dale) Hodson of Highland, Laura (Ted) Waln of Summerfield, Florida, one sister-in-law, Mary Jean Priest of Oxford, many nieces and nephews, and close friends, Mike and Fran DeWine of Cedarville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James R. Priest on March 18, 1992 and one sister, Lavina Barnes. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 11th at the Leesburg Friends Church. Pastor John Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Leesburg. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Leesburg Fire Department Community Room. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Humane Society, P. O.
