Ralph Lester Keaton, Jr., 69, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 4:41 p.m. at Fayette County Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Saturday.
Mr. Keaton was born October 24, 1944, in Circleville, Ohio to Ralph Lester and Betty Lou Crider Keaton, Sr. He was a 1964 graduate of Williamsport High School and had perfect attendance through all twelve years of school.
He had been an aide at the Orient State Institute and retired as a maintenance worker from Rickenbacker Air Force Base. He formerly assisted the George Weidinger family with their farming and dairy operations and had showed dairy cattle in 4-H.
Mr. Keaton loved gardening and the outdoors and was a master gardener. He was a volunteer at the Mound City Group National Monument in Chillicothe where he was named top volunteer in 2005.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1983 and two brothers, Jody Shawn Keaton in 1991 and Jeffrey Lynn Keaton in 2006.
Mr. Keaton is survived by a son, Dana Randolph "Randy" Keaton of Tacoma, WA; a daughter, Debra Schroeder of Manila, AR; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, his mother, Betty L. Keaton of New Holland; a sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Larry Priest of Powell, Ohio; a niece, Christy Lochbaum, South Bloomfield and special friends, Gary and Traci Woodrow of Mt. Sterling.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the New Holland Cemetery with Richard A. Matthews, minister at the New Holland Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland.
