John N. Miller

John N. Miller, 89 of Groveport, Ohio died at Grant Hospital on Friday, June 6, 2014. He was born January 27, 1925 in Franklin County to the late Walter and Vera Smith Miller.

John, with his son David, were the owners and operators of Shady Dell Farm where he was born and lived his entire life. He and his wife Donna were avid quilt makers and enjoyed restoring their historic farm home. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ashville, former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Groveport; serving on both church councils. He was a former member of the board of directors for the Columbus Federal Land Bank, Scioto Valley Grange and member of Franklin County Farm Bureau. He was awarded the degree of American Farmer in 1945 from the National FFA; the Good Year Conservation Farmer of the year in 1968. He organized and served as the leader for several years of the Groveport Work and Win 4-H Club.

He is survived by his wife Donna J. Miller whom he married July 11, 1967; daughter Daltonna (Jerry) Craig-Crawford, grandchildren Jill Craig and Kevin (Aimee) Craig. Great-grandchildren Kendall Bickett and Avery Craig, sister-in-law, Joyce Abare. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his son David A. Miller; son-in-law David M. Craig and brother Glenn W. Miller; sister and brother-in-law Louise and Les Mayer.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME 650 W. Waterloo St. Canal Winchester, where a funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, with Pastor Jay Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Obetz cemetery.
